Look out Drizzt…

I predict there being a new expensive rare hitting the Dungeons & Dragons miniatures market. In the latest “Previews” column on Wizard’s site, they showcase the number one most requested mini for D&D: a Gelatinous Cube. Further clarification by one of the D&D designers, Scott Rouse, says:

“I don’t think the picture does it justice.

First the cube comes completely off the base so you can put a medium mini inside.

Second the cube has a slightly iridescent coating on it to give it a bit of oozey shimmer.

We spent a long time trying to make this work. We tried a lot of different materials and it was very hard to get one that was durable, safe, “moldable”, and that look good.

I think you’ll like it.”

It may have taken a while, but the wait is worth it. I might have to buy more of this next DDM set than I was expecting to just to get one. But the question is: how will the new set work, being between two editions of rules?

Hit the jump for the Cube in all its glory. (Thanks, EnWorld)

They totally need to make a colossal gelatenous cube mini, that you can put the huge dragons inside!

Quite possibly my favorite D&D monster ever.

The concept of putting another creature is brilliant! Yup this one will probably supplant my Umber Hulk as favorite miniature…. Gotta have it!

  3. Bartoneus says:

What about…an Umberhulk riding a Bullette?!!?!

  4. The Game says:

    It’d be way too overpowered.

  5. ChattyDM says:

How ’bout that picture guys? That’s a comboo I have no wish to face…

Yeah, a Mind Flayer riding a Beholder is pretty intimidating… but can it BURROW? I didn’t think so.

(here’s our old picture, by the way)

  1. [...] Grab a d20 and head on down to Worldwide D&D Game Day! Well… maybe. The official WotC page says “pre-register with [a retailer] today!” Lame… I want to be able to walk into a store and play something and not be bound to an RPGA-ish schedule. Thankfully, here in Maryland we have plenty of quality game stores, so maybe I’ll drop by one to check it out, even if I don’t get to play. They’ve already sent out some D&D Minis scenarios, which give me hope that I’ll be able to buy some Desert of Desolation boxes (come on, Gelatinous Cube!) [...]
