King Kong Sings Songs, Jack Black Acts
This weekend I saw Peter Jackson’s Epic, err, his STAND-ALONE epic, King Kong. If you’ve seen the original, or even The Simpsons parody, you’re not really going to be surprised by any part of the story (and so I’m going to go ahead and say there be spoilers ahead) but it’s well worth watching nonetheless.

Support Mash-Ups and your right to remix: American Edit
As reported on previously, a great online “mash-up” (what we used to call more generally as a “remix”) of Green Day’s American Idiot album was released for free, but then Warners decided that for whatever reason this was bad to help promote an album (or albums, if you count the stuff it is mashed up with.) So the site got a cease and desist, and went away. But today ONLY, sites around the internet are protesting by offering the album for download once again.
Get it while the gettings good, and fight for your right to mash-up.
Chronicles of Narnia
It is an unfortunate circumstance that the new movie ‘ The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe’ was immediately taken in by many people as very much the same type of movie as the Lord of the Rings trilogy. This comparison went perhaps as deep for most people as the fact that it was released in mid December and that the same special effects company worked on it. (That being WETA) The fact is, there are many similarities and comparisons to be made between the Chronicles of Narnia and the Lord of the Rings, but the movies themselves are two beasts of a different color. (how’s THAT for a tie-in to X-Men 3? Huh? No dice? Hello?) [Read the rest of this article]
Critical Hit Gift Guide 2005
Want to score a “Critical Hit” this Holiday season? (Ha, it works on so many levels! What a whimsical site title!) Here’s a holiday gift guide made by the staff.
To the writers: post as a comment to this what you would recommend as a good holiday gift, price range, and where to get it. (You can also use this as a place to post things that you want to receive, and then send your relatives to look at this post. Genius.)
X-Man-aganza!
The first, or at least what I believe to be the first, images of X-Men 3 have been released to the public. There is a short article written about it on USA Today that, if you’re anything like me, you will only skim and quickly jump to the pictures and stare curiously at lies within. Your Source for the Latest Boardgame News…
…isn’t here. Suckers. However, there have been a few sites that have opened up recently that are invaluable for board game lovers. Check these out if you’re interested in them, or if a certain gamer in your life needs a new board game for the holidays (or has a birthday 6 days before Christmas and wants boardgames.)

Do Not Go 360 degrees of X-Box Crazy
My good friends over at IGN have published an article that is worth reading before you spend your money on a Microsoft X-Box 360. While it is true that Sony has many problems that do not complement a company that needs a strong consumer base, their saving grace will still be the Playstation game system.
In this well written article on IGN, ten good reasons to pass on the X-Box 360 in favor of waiting for the PS3 are listed. Check it out, you’ll be glad you did.
Windows Vista Overcooked
I just read an interesting article about Windows Vista and why it’s ultimately doomed to failure. For those who don’t know, Windows Vista is Microsoft’s new GUI subsystem in Longhorn. Wheras most GUI systems in operation today utilize old 2D methods for composition and display, Vista will instead use the 3D hardware to shove things out to screen, making it very pretty. So far so good; after all, we have this hardware available, why not use it, right?
Mindstorms Requiem
I discovered an interesting analysis of why Lego was pulling back on its Mindstorms line. For those who don’t know, the Mindstorms line is a neat set of tools designed with the idea to create real working programmable robotics systems using Legos. The sets have proven wildly popular, but in recent years Lego has pulled most of the sets and all of the funding for them. This article goes into why.
Super Mario Tributes
As sort of a followup to my Nerd Songs post, there’s a lot of musical tributes to those powerful plumbers, Super Mario Brothers. Most of them are videos of tribute medleys.
